Description (from ChoiceOrganicTeas.com): This is a traditional Japanese beverage made from twigs and stems of the tea plant. We choose organic twigs that are carefully aged and toasted to yield a mild, woody flavor. [Naturally low in caffeine] Review: I don't know why, but I used to drink a lot of Kukicha when I was a kid. Since I have had this tea blog, I have not reviewed any twig tea, and I have definitely missed out...it's not enormously popular but it gives me a newfound respect for Choice Organic, and I am going to buy some in the near future just so I have some around to drink when I want to feel nostalgic about my (obviously) very bizarre childhood.
You wouldn't think drinking twigs would be such a nice experience, but these twigs sure are delicious! They have a strong honey flavor and a natural sweetness, with a bit of a roasted, nutty aroma and taste. There is a lot of sweet woodiness (which makes sense, considering you are drinking steeped wood). What I enjoy most about this tea is the honey flavor. These twigs create such a sweet, mild brew. It is really incredible. It actually reminds me of high-end formosa, but it's not as syrupy or overwhelming.
Anyway, folks, a 3 oz. pack of twigs is $9.35, and completely worth it. This is definitely the sweetest Kukicha I've ever had and I urge everyone to try it.
Pros: delicious, woody, honey flavor with natural sweetness and toasted aroma
Cons: none!!
